new soft top/frame for my early 250SL

When I bought my early 250SL in 2002 it had no soft top frame.
Yesterday I fitted a period correct frame which I bought from Gernold, east coast USA.

The transaction went very smoothly with excellent communication.
I chose to use sea transportation (Main Freight) due to the outrageous costs of UPS.

The condition of the frame is like new with new seals and newly fitted German fabric.
The kit included mounting bolts , shims, and plastic closing/opening slides.

It took me about 2 hours to fit the frame to the car. I used the shims to adjust the frame height.
I am really pleased with the whole process and the soft top on the car looks exactly as I expected a new frame would.

The AUD USD exchange rates were very favourable for me in the transaction.
Unfortunately the GST had to be added plus other government charges.

hi bob - i'm currently looking at a 250SL

it has a hard top, no soft top but the compartment for the soft top exists so i think this is similar to your car. i had originally thought this was a californian but i assume because it has the soft top compartment it's not.

can i ask how much the soft top and frame cost?

The tops usually run between $2500 and $3500 depending if they also come with a canvas that is decent and suitable. Sometimes on Ebay and often in the US so some shipping may need to be factored in to that.
