Question about SLS mounting

Post by henrythirstymerc » Mon 20 May, 2019 8:20 pm

Evening,

Trying to source a replacement engine for my 300TD. Wondering if the om617's in the sedans also had room for the SLS and they are just blank plated?

Some are, some arn't

the only way to tell is to look at the engine to see if the plate is on the front of the head.

My engine does, i'll take a picture when the sun comes up tomorrow to show you what i mean :)

you will either find the SLS pump attached, or a blanking plate like this

That plate is from a M110 engine. If the W123 in question was to have SLS an engine with the pump mounting point was supplied. If it wasn't to have SLS then there was no mounting point. Therefore no need for a plate. At a guess mathuisella's picture is in a car that has had an engine swap.

There are multiple differant cylinder heads for these, the main variants being:

early 18mm glow plugs with and without SLS
later 12mm glow plugs with and without SLS

However there are also so odd crossover variants where the shape of the pre combustion chamber changed... Absolute night mare to do parts for, when the heads have been swapped around. We were accused of sending the wrong parts on more than a few occasions, only to find some time (and a lot of :boxing: later) that we did supply the right parts for the car as it left the factory....

the picture is from a diesel om617 - turbo. ( the 617 in the picture is a hint hehe )

The point is, if the diesel engine has a pump there or a plate in it's place, it can handle the SLS system.
